Actually, I believe it's 840F, and yes, that is the AWS's somewhat arbitrary
definition of the boundary between soldering and brazing. "Silver
soldering" is not an AWS recognized term, but basically straddles the
boundary, depending on what alloy you use for solder (filler material). The
one Bill mentioned would classify as brazing rod, unless of course your base
metal melts around 1080F, which would make it welding. The AWS
classifications don't always make a lot of sense <g>
