OK here's my method -
FREQUENTLY drop used rags into soak bucket containing strong soapy water mine's
right next to
the bench - leave to soak until you feel like washing them. Never let more than
6 or so
accumulate in there but always let them have several hours minimum soak.
THEN fish them out and wash by hand - I happen to have a small sink and
hot/cold water in my
shop (didn't just happen, I planned it that way). I do this when I'm finished
shop work and
about to clean up myself. Use normal laundry liquid - cheap no-name. Start
strong, then weaken
solution as suds replace scum. Normally takes 3 or 4 squeeze/drain/refill
cycles. 10 minutes
max. Stainless sink is easy to clean.
DO THIS FREQUENTLY. Don't let dirty/oily rags accumulate.
If I get really oily/greasy rag - garbage bin.
I grab clean rags frequently, drop even slightly oily ones in bucket frequently.
ADDED BONUS - your hands are clean enough to eat in an restaurant.
