        I have one of the small (less than a foot long) flourescent lights.  Its
a cheap one that I bought at a car flea market.  Has a 6 foot cord and an
outlet built into the handle.  It also has a lens at the tip of the bulb
for focussed light.  Its the only one I have and I don't miss the cage type
lamp.

        My father recently picked up a light from Sears for $15 that uses one of
those small halogen reflector/bulb fixtures.  Comes with a magnet mount and
the swivelable head.  Haven't actually tried it under a vehicle yet.
