Sears, way OVER rates their compressor HP. I don't know how they get
away with it but if you look at the power draw there is no way you can get
6hp out of that amperage draw. I was once told it has to do with "when"
they rate the motor, you get different readings at start-time, free-running
or under-load. Sears uses the one that is advantageous to them and not the
industry standard.
I have no idea what that all means, it is only what I was told by a
friend. I do know that 2 of my friends 5hp compressors require 22amps and
put out A LOT more air than my 6hp that requires only 15amps.
