Do it.  I've got an old Logan myself.  One really nice aspect of this
particular brand of hobby lathe is that there is still pretty good
support for it.  Parts and manuals are available, I think it is the
grandson of the Logan who started the business that is still supporting
it.  Check out rec.crafts.metalworking if you've got news access, and
