-> Bolts and nuts with small 12 pt heads are sometimes used in high
-> performance applications where limited clearance prohibits use of the
-> larger 6 pt heads. They aren't splined, but are specifically
-> designed to be turned with a 12 pt socket.
2000cc Fords used internal spline screws to hold the cylinder head and
timing belt tensioner on. Air cooled VWs used internal spline screws on
the CV joints. There are male spline fasteners, but I've never
encountered one.
Internal spline fasteners look much like Torx(tm) and TorxPLUS(tm)
fasteners, except they don't strip out so easily.
