welding an exhaust leak

I've got a 1/4" crack on a ridge of a flex pipe.  A used piece is probably
$2-300, new $500+ as it's all one unit with the cat converter.  Is it
possible to weld or braze the hole shut?  Would you use gas or electric?
I'd have a shop do it.
