My father used to work for Exxon and has this explanation for Varsol. Varsol is a petroleum diluent, a solvent composed, I believe, mainly of kerosene. It's very close to paint thinner you might get in the hardware store. I imagine it is made up mostly of middle distillates like pentanes, hexanes and some octanes with very light to some heavier components. It is not a pure, single component materials, rather broad in petroleum terms, not refined like gasoline or jet fuel might be. Ken Landaiche |
