Those correspond to one of the many, many wire guages, some of which
are still in use. There are/were far too many guages - some of which
varied by the material being guaged, others were proprietary to vendors
or manufacturers, some were "standards"... and wire was guaged
differently from sheet stock!
When in doubt give the dimension you want in decimal inches. Make the
vendor cross it over to whatever guage they're using. Fortunately
things aren't all that bad nowadays, at least in the USA, but you can
get bit when you specify something in Brown & Sharpe guage and your
vendor is using Stubs...
