Many thanks to everyone who responded.
The consensus:
-
Gotta use oil, no oil will kill the bar and blade in a hurry
-chainsaw oil is thicker than motor oil, works best, but any oil will do
the job
-watch yourself with these things, trees grow slowly, toes not at all.
-hearing and eye protection is a must. Nothing worse than running directly
into the path of a tree you are falling because you have wood chips in your
eye.
-squirting a bit of oil directly on the chain can be more effective since
the built in auto oilers sometimes fail
-the uses for the saw will arrive once you have one
etc.
again, thanks.
