I posted this on the British car list this morning and someone (thank you)
informed me of this list, so here it goes again. If you are on both lists please
reply to this one and not the brit car list.

These are the questions I posted earlier, I have since read the shop-talk
archives and now know a little bit more about compressors, I read several
bad commments on Sears ratings, but I am still thinking about this
compressor, its CFM is much higher than my old one. And I didn't see any
comments about MIG without gas...

  1. Anyone have anything good or bad to say about the 6.5hp 60 gallon
vertical air compressor that Sears sells these days. I have a tired 22 year
old 4hp Craftsman compressor that still compresses air but the auto shutoff
is broken right now. And its getting tired anyway. Would it be worth new
rings and shutoff to keep this nice (last forever) cast iron compressor or
go with this 6.5hp new one that probably won't last as long but has much
better CFM ( which I could really use ). Also how long do the air tanks
last anyway, before they go boom...

  2. Anybody have a opinion on Mig welders ? I am thinking of saving a few
bucks and going with the Lincoln SP125+ and using flux-cored wire so I don't
have to spend the money on the gas junk. I have only welded with gas though
and I don't know what difference there would be. I am a oxy/acetalene kind
of guy... I have some panels to fix up for my Roadster and with oxy I am
afraid of warping them due to heat. Mig should be easier to control the
heat with.
