Kevin, I have heard that WaterDisplacer-40 can etch machined surfaces. I would use Marvel Mystery Oil on machined surfaces. Some auto machine shops use it to protect freshly-machined auto engine parts. Plus it smells a heck of a lot better than WD-40.
