Such kits have been around for quite a while. Although I haven't seen
one running, I suspect the "industrial cleaners" probably refers to
water/oil separators. The pistons in a VW engine are exceptionally
loose when cold to accommodate the considerable expansion when running
at speed, and heat of compression in the compressor cylinders is still
small compared to ones burning fuel. Additionally, there's no pressure
spike at ignition in the compressor cylinders to gas-seal the rings, so
the end result is probably a fair amount of oil passing the compressor
cylinders. A really good oil trap/separator would be necessary to
provide relative clean pressurized air.
