As with any adhesive, a clean surface is necessary. Acetone is one of
the best cleaners for adhesives if the materials will tolerate it.
3M Adhesive Cleaner is amazing stuff. It seems to be exactly the right
solvent to dissolve all manner of adhesive (including 3M Super
Weatherstip Adhesive) without damaging the underlying surface,
*including paint*).
