Hi Brendan,
I used a Dewalt 4.5” angle grinder with a knotted wire wheel to remove
all the paint (top, bottom, inside and out) on my Sprite. Although using
a wire wheel may sound severe, in reality it is very controllable. With
a little practice you can control how many layer of paint you take off.
On most of my car, I took off all the paint layers down to the original
primer.
