Oil-less compressors (at least mine, an airpac) uses a leather seal 
rather than a standard set of rings. It also has a very short stroke 
(about 1.5 inches)  and the piston and connecting rod are a single 
unit.  So the piston kind of wobbles in the bore.  That's what I know.  
Mine is left over from my days as a general contractor  It has worked 
well since at least 1989 with only one inexpensive rebuild (Compressors 
take alot of abuse on the job site).
