If I remember correctly, Smokey's 50 is still a stock 6 volts.  If so, there 
won't be a ballast resistor.

There Should be a wire from the switch on the top of the starter to a
terminal on the ignition switch and one from another terminal to the
ballast resistor. The other end of the ballast resistor is connected
