even breathing hard at that speed.

There are a couple differences between a '54 and '53 frame. The most
important in this context is that the bellhousing crossmember is different,
and easiest solution is to use the '53 bellhousing.
If you want to put a '54 bed on a '53 or earlier frame you'll encounter the
most significant change, but in terms of this swap it doesn't matter
