I find the 261s mostly in '60 Series Viking' big farm trucks an another
smattering in any date correct Chebby vehicle that has a 6 cyl engine in it
or could have had one at one time, cars too. My TO weapon in the yards is a
long stick (24 -36 inches) sooos datI can scrape off the crud above the
starter in search of the 'Captain bars'. Lotso luck trying to get the
engine ID with it still in the vehicle.
I finally got my 261 out of the truck here (55 Viking) the other day, and I
took it out by myself (not counting the guy with a fork lift)! It's really
not that hard but I did find out that one still connected electrical wire
will definitely cause minor problems. Other than the transmission possibly
falling on you, it's a piece-o-cake but more greasy and dirty.
Oh yes, the yard owner tried to turn the $100 non complete 54 to 62 chevy
full pressure six into $150 "because that is a 261". Really Sherlock, and
how did you know that other than I told you? I stuck to my guns and he
begrudgingly relented cuz he did fit the previously negotatied description.
Yard managers, lawyers, car salesmen, real estate agents et al should be
heavily taxed for the air that they breathe. Sonnofa----- I think that I
like Texans more than them. =80

Is this the 261 you were going to find out what it was for me so I could
come and get it from Texas, Gee thanks don't forget I need one also they
are all gone here in Texas I have yet to find one . I need to replace my 261
block to long of a crack to fix but I am still driving it .
