I have run into a problem with my 1950 4 sp tranny in my 50 GMC. The
"drive gear" in the transmission that turns driven gear attached to the
speedo cable stripped, gone, whatever.I pulled the driven gear and
checked it. It was OK. I spun the driven gear with the speedo cable
hooked up and it is fine. So, the problem is definitely the "drive gear.
Judging from the diagrams in the shop manual, I am almost afraid to ask
this question but here goes. Does anyone know if I can replace this
without removing the complete transmission? I am sure I need to drop the
driveline, and maybe the trans tail shaft, but in hopes I can fix this
without pulling the whole trans. Any insight or your experience will be
appreciated.
