Guys,

I wanted to thank you all for your responses regarding my 216 acting like
its out of gas and stalling. The causes appear to be vapor lock or a
non-venting gas cap. SOme of the responses appear below.

Thanks again.

if you replaced the gas cap with one that is not vented, it could cause the
problem you mentioned. Ole trucks use a vented gas cap (open to the
atmosphere) so that the fuel pump can never suck a vacuum on the tank.
another thing that might be happening on a hot day is vapor-lock. check the
fuel line between the fuel pump and the carb and see if the heat from
under-hood is making it run very hot. If it is hot enough to vaporize the
fuel in the line before it gets to the carb, it will stall. But when you
open the hood and cool down

Could it be vapor lock? I used to get it when I towed a 22 ' travel trailer
with my 71 IH Travellal. Bob K

Hi Micheal,
Don't know anything about your truck, but I had a similar problem with my
'48 International, turned out to be just the filter in the fuel pump bowl,
of course, you probly checked that already.

Just a thought.

Mike

Just get a new gas cap. Yours is obviously not venting as it should which
is causing a vacuum in the Gas Tank. I do not think that the fuel pump is a
problem. If you want to check the fuel pump out put a pressure gauge on it
and you should have somewhere between 5 and 7 psi. If you are in that range
as a minimum the pump is okay.

Besides the gas cap is the cheaper way to go. Should be able to get one at
your local NAPA without a problem.

Good Luck
