I started to give the same answer that Robert did about the ballast
resistor, but then I noticed that you said "I converted my old
distributor from points to electronic ignition".  Some electronic
ignition conversions require the ballast resistor, but many do not.
Assuming your instructions are written for a 12 volt system, see what
they say about removing the ballast resistor.  If they don't mention it,
you need to install one.
