You can't really determine "more hp" without all the engine parameters and what
the max flow of each carb setup would be and what max flow the engine could
make use of. Gas mileage also depends on max flow necessary and min flow
possible for a given rpm while maintaining a certain mixture. A Jim Forbes
could do much better than I, but...
multi-carbs
+ look incredibly cool
+ may cause more even fuel flow if everything is extremely well designed
- linkage is difficult
- carb balancing is difficult but necessary (don't want to overstate this as a
problem...it can be done...just note it has to be done)
- choke arrangement also difficult
single 4 bbl
+ easy installation in most every way--linkage, choke, etc.
- can't just bolt it on and go...need to size it for the flow of the engine.
The single carb would be alot less trouble and would probably work at least as
well if not better than a multi-carb setup. That said, I have serious thoughts
about putting a retro 3 carb setup on my GMC 270 when it is done...just for the
retro performance cool factor. Not sure I said anything you didn't already
know, but that's my 2 cents worth...
