I used POR15 to paint the frame on my 1950. I brushed it on, and it
ended up being a lot more work than I expected, but I love the results,
which I think look very similar to powdercoating. I top coated it with
their own Chassis Coat Black. I wasn't real impressed with the top
coat. One problem that I had is that I used the black POR15 and the
Chassis Coat Black. Since they both look the same, I had a very
difficult time determining which parts were top coated and which parts
still needed it. I did this at the end of the summer and the frame is
still in the garage, so I can't really attest to long-term results. I
did use some of the left over POR15 on a rusty fender on another old car
that sits out in direct sunlight all the time. Some parts are still
shiny black, while other parts have faded considerably. I don't know
what the difference is as to why the entire painted area did not weather
evenly. However, as you probably know, the POR15 company asserts that
the fading will occur without a topcoat, but the rust preventative
characteristics are not supposed to be affected by weather. Overall,
I'm very happy with the POR15, but if I had to do it again, I would
probably save myself some time and money and still paint the frame with
the POR15 but then topcoat it with some off-the-shelf aerosol spray paint.
