Dipping is a viable method but also comes with it's own bit of risks. The
major down side to dipping is the "dip" that remains in the cavities that
can't be accessed and can cause some additional long term deterioration.
The best method, I believe, is first to do an applied paint removal and
then media (versus sand) blasting. The media, i.e. peanut shells, don't
heat up the metal and cause warping to occur.
