In 1983, the only difference between GMC and Chevy that I am aware
of is the grill and badging. A 350 Chevy and GMC engine should be
exactly the same.
Can't comment on how the new engine would bolt up to the old transmission.
My dad had a 79 GMC 4 x 4 with a 350 and a TH400 transmission,
so the combination is possible.
