[oletrucks] OT (Wooden automotive rims)

I need some help trying to figure something out for my father.  What types of
wood were used for earlier cars and trucks?  Does anyone know of a website
that I could do some research.  The only sites I have been able to find are
for wagon wheels, not automotive.  Are they the same?
