Thanks! So you are saing the base of the bulb is just dead metal? I'm
thinking if that's the case then I'm the victim of a bad reproduction as my
new domelight came with a 1157 bulb. Any idea what the correct bulb number
is for the domelight?

I think you have the wrong bulb for the domelight, If I recall the bulb
has one fillament ,,, but it has two contacts on it.. the bass of the bulb
is not to ground for the filiment,, one post on the bulb goes to the
constant positive 12 volt side of the circuit directly from the fuse box,,
the other post on the bulb goes to a switch that goes to ground,, you can
have multiple swiches as needed wired in parallel.. (Door switch to
ground,, and the switch in the head light also goes to ground),,
