I've been to Texas many times. And once it was more than just a rushed
change of planes at DFW.
That time I motorcycled from Louisiana to New Mexico, with a unplanned
overnight stop at a rest area east of Big Springs where I slept on the
ground next to my bike waiting for it to get light enough to remove the flat
tire...
Going into Dallas I got lost on an interchange that I later learned was
called the mix-master. I made a several day visit with friends living in
Dallas at the time. That was the summer everyone was wondering who shot JR,
and was one of the hottest summers in anyone's recent memory.
I've not felt a reason to go back.
I've known some people from Texas who were great. The one I encounter most
often these days is a business acquaintance that most people I know wish
would move out of the country. Her husband is a former Marine and also from
Texas.
A few years ago I was waiting in line to get theatre tickets in a place just
outside Vancouver BC. One of the Americans I was with made a comment about
a Californian that was in the group. Soon afterward I overheard the
Canadians around us talking about Americans the way Oregonians and
Washingtonians talk about Californians.
I've just learned the 30-year comprehensive plan for my neighborhood, and
while I don't think Texas is likely, I've decided to seek a new
neighborhood.
I'm looking forward to seeing those doors, but I'm not in a real big hurry,
because I'm just in the parts collecting phase of that project, so meet your
schedule and don't worry about mine.

same thing that you just asked. I still do, actually.
Well, I have a theory: I think that transplants from
Texas are trying to convince others to move to Texas
so that they can enjoy some solitude in their "new"
environment. :)
But you can't blame those folks for wanting to
surround themselves with the good things (old trucks).
I don't know how it has been for you, but the Texans
(and former Texans) that I have met have been really
nice folks. BTW, is being a "former" Texan like being
a "former" Marine?
I guess that at least a person can -tell- people that
they're from Texas. Try telling someone that you're
from California!!! You all outside of CA. know what
I'm talkin' about.
BTW, Steve, working on getting you some photos of the
AD doors...
