Karen,
Am I correct in assuming the hood stands open (up) on the back side, near
the windshield? Are the hinges "new" hinges? If they are used, they are
probably worn too. A good test is to remove the springs that hold the hood
open.
If the hood sits down correctly without the springs installed, the hinges are
worn or sloppy. The hinges are also adjustable, but may need the slots
enlarged with a rattail file. Some of the repop hinges are close, but no cigar.
As for the hood popping, the release mechanism might be worn or
misadjusted. Try the spring up and down until fixed and/or move the release
mechanism
around (also adjustable) until it stays down. The hood not closing properly
may
also be adding to the popping problem.
FYI, I had these same problems and worked long and hard to fix. I even
adjusted on the fenders to make the closed hood fit right. If you are looking
for consistent gaps and tight tolerances, in stock form these trucks seldom do
it. Good luck.
