[oletrucks] speedometer

speedometer doesn't work...i bought a new cable, that didn't help, i could
spin the gauge and see movement, so it must be the transmission end.  How do
I check that out...the shop manual gives details on how to remove part of
the transmission, is that necessary or is there an easier way?
