Joseph,

I have been wondering the same thing but for a different reason. I have a
1940 1/2 ton that I want to put a 1955 1st series axle on. There is a nice 6
lug disc brake kit for the 47 - 54,551st axle. The springs are in the same
location, but the 1940 uses the rebuildable ends and the 55 has the more
modern ends. Can I just swap over, I think I can, or do I need a newer
steering arm? One of the disc brake conversion companies makes a new arm for
lowered suspensions, There aren't different ones for the different ends, so
I guessed :) that they were interchangeable.

I hope someone actually knows the answer to this.

I have a 1952 Suburban. I'm in the process of putting
on a disc brake kit and rebuilding the front
suspension. Although it's not going to be a race car
or anything, I personally don't trust the tie rod ends
and drag link (rebuildable type). I've found
different tie rod ends to replace the stock ones. The
big question is about the drag link. I've noticed
(via catalog pictures) the 1953-54 drag link is more
modern. Is it stronger? Has anybody made one fit on
the earlier suspension? Or is this all some sort of
dream that there would be a quick fix to an age old problem?
