What college is that remote?
I've been following this discussion because a friend has talked about buying
a couple of those big boxes (we call them containers) as storage units.
They cost about $1200 US around here.
One thought I had is that you punch some holes in it and add a doorway or
two on the side. You could also use some of those little carts that go one
under each wheel to ease moving a car in a tight space. That would make the
flat tire problem go away.
I'm intrigued by the idea, and might try it myself. In my neighborhood I'm
told it costs about $1200 just to get the permits to build a garage...

Snow arrived October 10th and hasn't left. -34 this morning with not much
sign of relief in the next week. Snow is usually all gone by mid April, and
by late May our second season starts, BUGS.
My wife and I both teach at a College and get most of the summer off. We
spend our summers living in a travel trailer on my parents farm just outside
of Edmonton Alberta. My plan is to leave my truck stored on my parents farm
as the only time I will enjoy and use it is during the summer. Not much use
having it taking up space in my garage here, and the road out still has 100
miles of gravel as part of the 800 miles to Edmonton.
I am looking for a storage solution at the farm when we are not there. I had
not thought about the flat tire problem. I am thinking about putting a track
or guide on the floor and using a small winch to get it in, and possible
out.
With the price of a sea can only being $2000 and a garage would probably
cost me $5000-8000. Another thought is an enclosed car trailer as a way of
getting around and also a storage solution. But I don't want to be
considered a TRAILER QUEEN owner. My truck is being built to drive and
enjoy, but I also want to enjoy it for many years to come.

Measured my half ton 57 GMC TF at 75". Window opening is about 4" indented
from the widest spot, so if you can get one door right up against one side
of the sea can (someone else had a great idea about "guides" on the floor of
the can) you'd have about 21" to crawl out of the window and past the cab
into the bed. When the battery was dead after winter storage (how long is
winter in the Northern Territories anyway?) you'd have to drag the truck
out. Consider placing the sea can on a slight uphill grade. The real
bummer would occur when one (or more) of the tires went flat while the truck
was being stored. There wouldn't be near enough room to change the tire in
the sea can.

Anyone have a TF truck and tape measure handy? How wide is a TF truck?
I am looking for a winter storage solution for my truck and I have found
some used sea cans 25 miles away from where I will be storing my truck next
winter. The Sea can is 7'8" inside.
I think the truck will fit inside, but how will I get out if I drive it in?
