I was going to install the intake manifold on the 305 V8 that came with
the '51 Chevy I purchased a few weeks ago but I ran in to a potential
problem. From the casting numbers I've determined that the engine is an
'83 or '84 305 HO engine (58 cc HO heads) and the intake manifold is
from a '66 Chevy 327 car. The problem is that the rear set of water
passages on the heads are covered up by the intake manifold. I don't
have it sitting in front of me but if I recall correctly, the heads each
have 3 water passages and the intake manifold only has two on each side.
From the mineral buildup in the rear water passages on the engine I'm
guessing that they were covered in the past. I don't know if this
manifold has actually ever been on this engine since it came loose. The
original (as of '95 when it was parked) engine was a 283 and the
manifold came from that, I'm thinking that the 305 originally had an FI
setup on it. Thanks for the help, I don't have a lot of experience with
sbc engines and I'm getting conflicting advice as to whether or not the
cooling passage needs to be open.
