The same part number (2327536) is used for all GMC TF cabs. The part number
is for the complete ash tray assembly and the screws that hold it to the dash.
There are actually four pieces and four screws involved.
The ash tray itself.
A chromed pot metal handle.
A chromed front cover that sandwiches between the ash tray and the handle, all
held together by two screws that go through the front of the ash tray, the
front cover and thread into the back side of the handle.
A box mounted to the inside of the dashboard by two screws that the ash tray
slides into. The strange thing about this box is that it isn't level, but
instead slopes upward towards the front bumper about 20 degrees.
I've attached a few pictures (I completely agree with Miq filtering them out
of the oleTrucks distribution, if anyone else wants the pictures let me know)
of the ash tray.
It turns out I don't have a spare ash tray assembly, but I do have a spare
handle and front cover (shown in attachment HANDLE.JPG) that you are welcome
to Jim. You can use them as a "dummy" ash tray to fill the hole in the dash
while searching for the real thing. I used it that way for a while in my
truck. Just drill holes that match the screw holes on the handle into a piece
of sheet metal or 1/4" plywood that is slightly larger than the ash tray hole
in the dash, hold the handle and cover in place on the dash, put the plywood
on the back side of the ash tray hole and run two screws through the plywood,
the ash tray hole, the front cover and into the handle. It looks great, you
just can't open it.

Subject: [oletrucks] 1958 GMC Ashtray
I am in the process of working on my 1958 GMC Pickup and the ashtray and
housing is missing. I have one but I don't think it is correct as it does
not appear that it fits properly in the dash. A PO cut up the dash some to
put in an after market radio. If someone
could send (e-mail) me a picture of the correct housing and ashtray
including the faceplate it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe also a
picture of the dash showing the ashtray.
Thanks in advance for all the help,
Jim V.
