Maybe I should clarify what I stated in my preceding message before I get
verbally trounced...

Three quarter ton and larger trucks had the parking brake lever mounted
to/through the floor.  Half ton trucks had the brake
_lever_ mounted to the bottom of the dash on the driver's side. 

;) You know those "dash brakes" never prevented the dash from reaching up to
smack ya in a head-on collision.
