What you've got there is a 1928, 170.9 cid, 35 hp @ 2200 rpm.  It's missing
the push rod covers, the exhaust manifold is on upside down, the carburetor
is off an earlier model and the new (for '28)closed crank case vent system
has been defeated by the ventilated oil fill cap and disconnected vacuum
tube.  Cars and trucks all used the same prime mover in those days.  The
fuel line is missing so it would be hard to start.  ;-)  You don't need a
starter, a crank will do.

can anyone tell me what or when this is? its a 4 cyl chevy motor.
cross-flow, hemi? from before the 30's i think. my dad seems to think it
came out of a truck? its teh whole fornt frame and supports from whatever.
from the firewall forward to the rad. theres one pic high res of the number
on the motor and you can prob pick out a casting number too-i didnt write it
down. theres a bowtie on the exhaust-thats how i know its a chevy...
