Hey Fellow Listees!!

Regarding swapping your rearend I have done this on my 52 Chev 1300. I
looked at several options and finally settled on the rearend from a 67 Chev
1/2 ton Pickup. The width, backing plate to backing plate is the same as
the original and as a bonus the backing plates from the original will bolt
on so that your original parking brakes can be used without hassle. You
will have to have some shoes made up for the axle, or acquire some from a
supplier, and then have them welded onto the axle housing as well as grind
off the existing mounting brackets. Set the pinion housing so that it is on
a 3' upward incline, or better still measure the original and set the new
one the same.

My rearend came with 3:73 gears in it and 6 bolt axles, 5 bolt are available
if you want. There are also gear combinations from around 2:70 up to 5:??.
I am currently using 3:08 gears and with my 216 - 85 hp 6 cyl and 3 speed
transmission I can comfortably cruise at 65 mph for hours on end without
hurting the engine.

Hope this helps.

Mac
