Not dead here yet either.... been so hot that I'm doing some work in the
early morning then leaving the truck till later in the evening.
Finished the dolly for my 57 cab this weekend. Its a roller now! Hardest
part was getting the cab off the frame by myself with levers, blocks, and
2X10's... or as my Grandad used to say "Mainstrength and awkward"
I used 2x6's and attached them using longer bolts through the cab mounting
points. Then built 2x4 trusses to attach the casters. I left the 2x6's
sticking out a ways both in front and back of the cab for tilting. By going
to the back of the cab I can tilt the cab forward onto the ends of the 2x6's
to work on the cab bottom without hurting the front of the cab.
Next up is to transport the cab to the location where I can sandblast. May
have to wait till slightly cooler weather to get under the gear required for
sandblasting.
Meanwhile back at the body shop, the right front fender is finally in primer
after a fair amount of work. The bottoms were rusted out. There was a
dent/puncture above the headlight, and it turned out the fender was not
original and didn't have the correct cutout at the front for mounting.
There was also a poorly-done antennae hole and miscellaneous dents.
The right door is "skinless" and a brace has been welded in (with nuts) for
right side mirror mount. Also braced up the hinge mounting area. The
bottom is welded in and parts of the door have the first (etching) primer.
Once the door is completed, the cab and frame will be the only un-repaired
pieces.
I noticed in the past that someone has agreed to post pictures of member
trucks. Is this still available? If so, where do I send pictures and are
there specific requirements for such pictures? For example is there a size
limit and particular format bmp, jpg... that is required.
