[oletrucks] Smooth hood

I have a '50 Chev. and I want to remove the center strip frome the hood. Do I 
need to weld the whole
length of the hood? After the hood is welded is something like "kitty hair" 
good enough to keep it from cracking later? I was also thinking of cleaning 
up the underside of the hood. Any ideas?
