Mark,
I found most of the play in my system in the drag link, this connects
the steering box pitman arm to the steering arm on the left front wheel
back. I had my wife wiggle the steering back and forth and just watched
what wasn't moving as she moved the wheel, and i solved about 1/4 round of
play out of the steering wheel by replacing the drag link. Radial tires
help a lot with that, front end alignment of course. To check the kingpins,
jack the front wheel up and grab it at the 12 and 6 o'clock position and
try to wiggle it--worn pins you can feel. I rebuilt my steering box, but
that didn't help 5 bucks worth-much less the 89 the rebuilt kit was. I had
my alignment done about 1/4 inch of toe in and that helps lots. --wayne
