As some from the lists predicted, I have sticker shock after getting my first
quote on
parts for a rebuild of my 58 GMC NAPCO's 270 6 cylinder. Egge quoted me $1300
for
everything (probably wouldn't need everything but just checking) and that
doesn't, of
course, include any machine work. A new crate small block Chevy V8 can be had
for about
the same price.
I haven't checked NAPA as of yet (someone on the list said that they had almost
everything for a rebuild).
The reason I wanted to rebuild the 6 instead of going straight to a
V8/Hydramatic setup
is that I figured that collecting parts for the new setup could take a couple
of years
and given that the VIN codes the truck as a 6, I may want to stay with the 6
anyway. At
any rate, I do still intend to go straight stock (58 GMC parts) with this truck.
