No Limit Engineering (www.nolimit.net , 1-888-297-6032) has a very nice
stainless steel "slide-down" battery tray that can go in the stock location
(or other). Part number BT-300. I have one that I may consider selling.

The '58 was a 12 volt, correct? if so will it accept today's 12 volt?
I wasn't wild about putting a trap door in the floor board large enough to
service today's batteries.....ALL options are open at this point
though.....the final decision has not been made....

The firewall looks GREAT .....no brake booster......NOTHING on it....would
like to keep it that way if I can come up with an acceptable
alternative......From your comments....I am assuming that a stock '48
battery tray is too small? would I be better off to build one for under the
floorboard?

A clean firewall is more popular and desirable...putting the battery
under the floor is clean and neat...Same with the master cyl and booster
too...But to each his own..it's up to you in the end...almost any
replacement battery box from GM will work...If you try to rework a stock
battery box you will have to widen it anyway to get the new 12 voly
battery to fit in where the smaller six volt was...FYI Chet
