| Dear Ole Truckers:
Ole Nellie Belle quit on me yesterday morning on the way to work. The most
awfull clatter under the floorboard. She clanked, clattered and jerked to a
halt almost as though the brakes were grabbin'.
I checked all of the rims and no heat. No cylinder leaks. However the
torque tube just at the rear of the tranny was extremely hot. I am guessing
a bearing went bad. There had been some strange vibrations most of the
summer.
I did notice that just after the truck stopped when I would push the clutch
in there would be quite a clatter as well. Perhaps unrelated to the torque
tube heat?
Any ideas? If it is a bearing in the tube, could you detail the repair
process. I do have a shop manual that mentions shims, etc., and it seemed
just a little vague. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon Callahan
