Dear Tom,
While we gather as a nation to grapple with the horrific events of
this week, I pray
that we do not become our attackers, acting out of hate, revenge and spite.
I hope that we can rise above terrorism and war to try and understand
what it is about
Usama Bin Laden, his followers, the Pakistanis, Iraqi's and much of
the Islamic world that
has brought them to hate westerners and to consider it a holy act to
die killing us.
Until both sides can talk, discuss and act like the higher beings
that we are suppose to be, there
is no hope of ending this. I fear that we are entering into a very
dark era where it is seen as
unpatriotic to want peace and understanding and that escalation into
full war is perceived
as the "right" thing to do.
I am not advocating that we do not find the perpetrators of this
tragedy, but that we not
dismiss innocent people as expendable in the name of revenge by
launching a full scale attack
on a people that we as Americans actually know very little about.
It's time to move forward not backward
Lisa
