Try swapping the wide pulley onto the new alternator and stick with wide 
belt.   You have to keep the original pulley diameters in  proportion.  GMC 
wter pumps are getting very expensive, so I wouldn't abuse it.  Change to neg 
ground at this time. Swap ammeter leads.
