Truck Guy -

I think what you got was some oversized shoes at the rear and that's why
they are so tight.  See they make shoes with thicker linings to compensate
for the drums being turned  and  you might have some .060 shoe brake linings
and your drums might only be turned .030 or something similar.  A lot of
people don't know they make shoes with thicker linings and get them by
mistake and run into these problems.

Be aware that the shoe linings are two different lengths, the shorter length
goes to the forward side of the truck and the longer lining shoe goes to the
rear.  This causes the forward shoe to pivot the rear shoe into the drum
more due to the counter clockwise rotation of the drum when driving forward
and allows the back to apply most of the braking.
