No fuel smell in the cab is normal. You have a leak or seep somewhere,
look for it. One easy spot is if the tank fills to the top, you
may be slopping a little over the filler rim and it is leaking down
along the pipe. The second is the lines between the filler rim and
the tank. One of these is most likely if it only happens when you
fill the truck with gas.
Don't these year trucks have outlets on the bottom where you can't
really see them? My 57 has a suction line to the fuel pump out the
top of the tank.
