336 V8 was based on Pontiac V8. Was available in 58-59.
The 57 models were 347 cubic inches, same as the 57 Pontiac.
In 58, Pontiac went to 370 and GMC dropped back to 336.
There were actually 2 different 336 engines, before
and after s/n 35001.

Subject: [oletrucks] 59 GMC 26000 GVW 336?
Anybody ever heard of or know anything about a 336 V8? I Just got home a 59
GMC truck and the data plate
Say's it has a 336. It's a new one on me. It looks like a smallblock Chevy I
thought it was a 283 it may Have been Changed at some point I guess it's
time to start looking for Casting #'s. It is an old Pepsi truck (flatbed)
looks to be in real good shape I think all it needs is Tires and some TLC I
just wish PO would have left the Huge Warn winch that was on the Front of
it. It has a full set of racks and a steel covered stake bed with a
electric two speed. It also has a rear trailer hitch so it's looking like a
good all around car/wood hauler.
Thanks in Advance Jay Baker www.expage.com/chevylikearock
