Jim,
Thanks, all good points to consider but this is not his first truck
as he already has
a 55 chevy stepside that has been completly restored. The point is he wants a
truck he can drive
daily around town and just plain use, where the 55 is just a garage queen and
only used for
a drive in the country or to take to cruises or car shows, oh and the
ocasional CLEAN cardboard
box from the department store. Also the truck he is considering does not run
but the motor
turns over, anything he should know about the 216 ?? it also has a three speed
transmision.
He is a pretty big guy, 5/9 id say and around 250 lbs, the cab to cramped for
us larger people??
Thanks,

Jeff,
I have a 46 and it is my first truck. I purchased it because I wanted the
vertical Art Deco grill. I have never seen this truck in person until mine
arrived at my house - only photos. Now looking back it was not the correct
decision for a number of reasons. The 41 - 46 were made in VERY limited
quantities due to the second world war. A good number of them did not have
the chrome pieces that I desired, so far I have pulled chrome off of 5
trucks to get mine to the place that I would like to be. Also the cab is
VERY small. It is hard to drive if there is a 3ed person in the cab. No
mater what size they are you are all shoulder to shoulder across the cab. I
have a 4 speed and need to reach over the lap of the center person to shift.
I do not think this would be as much a problem with a 3 speed. Also for the
46 parts are VERY hard to find and cost a great deal more than the 47+
Advanced Design. There are a limited number of locations that sell parts
and there seems to be a few that are moving out of the 46 line this year.
For a starter truck I would STRONGLY recommend going with the AD.

Hey guys,
I need some advice, again, for a freind of mine who wants to
get into either a 46 or 47 chevy truck.
anything in particular to look out for on trucks of that
vintage?? I do not have any experience on anything older than 1955. He is
looking at a complete, project truck
for $3650 in Illinois. The truck is very solid with really just needing
paint and tires, and I am sure the other mechanical checks, belts, hoses,
brakes..etc.
Anyone with their two cents??
